Day 14–Lauren Jankowski

It’s hard to believe that I was interviewed by the Blog Ring of Power in August.  It honestly feels like just yesterday.  I can’t believe it’s already November (when did that happen?).  I’m sure this is the point where I’m supposed to write something like “so much has happened since then,” and I’m sure a lot has.  Right now, I’m feeling a little worn out.  After months of rewrites and setbacks, not to mention countless hours of frustration, I have finally released the third novel in my series.

There really is no better feeling in the world than finishing a novel you have put countless hours into.  I can honestly say that my third novel is my best to date and I think I have grown as a writer.  At least, I hope I have.  This was the novel I have been looking forward to releasing ever since deciding to self-publish.  I foolishly thought it would only need another rewrite, maybe two.  I once again learned that I was too close to the material to make that call.  My wonderful brother and editor, Michael McClellan, and basically told me that the manuscript was going to require a lot of work. If I wanted it to be the best possible novel it could be, which I did.

So I embarked on one of the most challenging rewrites to date. I was still going to conventions and marketing my other novels. Conventions are fun, but can often be exhausting.  Add in a hardcore rewrite and you’ve got a recipe for exhaustion. But I kept at it and I’m glad I did.  “From the Ashes” is everything I wanted it to be and I cannot wait to hear what readers think. Right now, sales are good (though they can always be better).  As for what the future holds: I’m taking a brief break so I can recharge my creative batteries. I plan to start work on my fourth novel in mid-January. I released three novels in 2013 and have decided to never do that again. I plan to release one novel a year at least and if I have enough left in me, I’ll try for a second. For now, though, I’m just marketing my three novels. A writer’s work is never done.
